Sending a note along from the Canadian Quilt Association’s Annual meeting in London, Ontario.
Janome is the exclusive sponsor of the classroom machines and we brought in a truckload of 4030 Anniversary machines to keep the classrooms humming with creative energy. Students are revelling in full day courses with teachers like Hilary Rice, Lily Lam, Karen Combs and Elaine Quehl.
After a full day of set up (an a quick pass through the merchant mall – Yum!), it was time to hear the awards announcements. Joanna Alford (Mdme. President) encouraged all to consider entering next year’s competition, saying “if you think that you are not somehow ‘good enough,’ you’re wrong!” To be good enough, you need only take that first step in stitching.
Joanna then invited us to have an up close look at the National Juried Show. (a catalog and cd are available through the CQA). The range of work is quite varied and impressive. Traditional to abstract, there is something for everyone. Nothing can compare to standing amongst all of the color, texture and talent in the quilt-filled room. Close-up looks provide surprise discoveries of details as well as a technique tell-all.
There’s still one more day to attend the London gathering. Quilt displays, the merchant mall and the evening banquet will not disappoint, but sharing time with like-minded quilting friends and some of Canada’s best talent will refresh your creative soul.
