The lovely and talented Heather Ross recently co-hosted a fundraiser to benefit “a family affected by breast cancer.” The You Are My Sister event evening was held at the end of June. You can read more about the event here and here.
The imagery on the machine may seem familiar, as Heather has designed whimsical collections of fabric featuring mermaids and fairytale characters for Westminster and Kokka of Japan. You Can see more of her designs at Spoonflower. She also wrote a best-selling book, Weekend Sewing. You can see what others were inspired to sew on the book’s Flickr Group.
Heather wears multiple crowns, as both an illustrator of children’s books (and surfboards) and a fabric designer. The fund-raising event was conceived to benefit her twin sister Christie who she says “has a very good prognosis, but not good insurance.” You can get to know the artist behind this inspiring machine on her blog. (sadly, the Janome DC2013 that the art is rendered on is not available in Canada)
