Our big quilt showcasing just some of the 480 incredibly fresh & new embroidery designs that the JANOME MC 15000 has to offer for our embroidery enjoyment!!

Debbie & I (at the Vancouver office of Janome Canada) wanted to make a really splendid embroidery sampler showing many of the NEW embroidery designs found on the JANOME HORIZON MC15000.  Debbie dreamed up the contemporary design utilizing the great NEW designs .  I then embroidered & embroidered & then embroidered some more!! Finally it all came together and I quilted it using the ACUFIL QUILTING HOOP in the main body of the quilt and free motion in the borders. Lastly, the quilt was bound using the JANOME QUILT BINDER SET.

It needs to be said at the outset that Debbie has been hugely involved in getting many of the wonderful fresh & new designs for the embroidery collection for this machine together. I also spent a good deal of time earlier this year doing test embroideries as the digitizing came in & before it was all submitted to Janome in Japan for inclusion on the machine. A huge job for the whole team here and in other parts of the Janome world. But it was 100% worthwhile as we have a truly innovative and fresh, contemporary collection of built-in designs on this machine. I am very proud to have been a small part of the process that got us to this point.

I will share in more detail at another time about some of the how-to’s for the big quilt – such as the Acufil quilting which was just a “walk-in-the-park” but for now I will share close up pics of different parts of the quilt.

The top border of the quilt

The top border of the quilt: the wing is a GR hoop design and the heart is a SQ14 design. I re-sized the heart and 100% most definitely printed templates and used these in conjunction with the JANOME CLOTHSETTER  to position & accurately hoop the 3 designs.

This was a little like building a giant pizza! It has 12 wedges making up the circle. each wedge is a GR hoop design. I am guessing there will be NO show of hands for those willing to try & line these up without templates and the JANOME CLOTHSETTER??!! I used these aids and still did not manage to get it 100% perfect. It would be the very last wedge that was a bit off so I just could NOT start all over again @ 4 wedges per day - ALL day! But then, we were shooting for overall effect so we left it as is. I like to remind myself that perfection is a most elusive quality!

Next came the section below the "pizza". This is made up of 3 large circular embroideries and surrounded by 6 quarter circles. Again, there was NO WAY I would have attempted this without my trusty JANOME CLOTHSETTER & printed templates to mark out the fabric & hoop up accurately. Colour choice was also a critical factorfor Debbie & I: we spent quite a bit of time trying out various combinations to achieve the overall result we were looking for. Note: this section was 9 hoopings.

Colour choice was also an important consideration for Debbie & I: we spent quite a bit of time trying out various combinations to achieve the overall result we were looking for.  Note: this section was 9 hoopings. PLEASE ALSO NOTE  the ACUFIL QUILTING on the white background. This was real quick & easy as I used 2 different ACUFIL designs and resized them so that I had a variety of templates to fit different sections of the background. It worked SO well ………I am SERIOUS when I tell you that I did not even have to remove the ASQ hoop from the machine nor did I have to stand up. Just popped the magnets, slid the template under the embroidery foot, lined up the quilt on the next marked design; reclamped the magnets for the new design; removed the template  and stitched. I was amazed at how quickly I got the entire background quilted!! I  am VERY convinced that this truly is the way to go for quilting ….let the embroidery machine do the work for you.  It is simply the smartest and most efficient way to get your quilting done. IF YOU HAVE NOT YET SEEN HOW OUT ACUFIL QUILTING WORKS, PLEASE SEE YOUR LOCAL JANOME DEALER FOR MORE INFORMATION. You will be amazed.

We added corner embroideries around the big circles of "wedges". Note the Acufil Embroidered quilting in the background as well as a little free motion quilting.

The border at the bottom used the heart design again + the circular one in the middle of the round, central design. I also added another SQ14 hoop design to complete the row.  See below:

This is wonderful and thank you for sharing! Just got a 15000 and am looking for more specific directions on how to achieve results like these. Janome or someone should put out videos for these techniques.

My dealer says he cannot order cloth setter or binder yet for the 15000. Had them for my 12000 and am anxious to get them for my 15000. Is my dealer mis-informed?

      Hi Sue,
Thank you for your query. Answer is Yes & No. The Clothsetter for the Mc15000 is the SAME one as the Mc12000 and the Mc9900 – all 3 machines use the same clothsetter so your dealer was mis-informed on that issue. Please use the Mc12000/Mc9900 Clothsetter with your Mc15000.
But he was correct about the quilt binder. As the bobbin system is different (Easy Set bobbin) the cover is a different size (smaller) and so the Quilt Binder for Mc12000/9mm machines is not compatible. As far as I am aware, we do not yet have a new Quilt Binder for Mc15000 & MC9900. I am quite sure we will get a Quilt Binder set that is compatible with the Easy set bobbin machines. Just no word yet on when. Keep watching this blog as I will announce as soon as I hear anything. Hi Sue,
Just got word this morning that the Quilt Binder Set for Easy set bobbin machines (currently Mc9900 & Mc15000) will get a Quilt Binder towards the end of this year or beginning of 2014. It is currently being developed. So not too long to wait…..Hooray! And once again, once it arrives & is available for purchase at our Janome dealer stores, I will write a blog post letting you know this. Keep watching.

Beautiful quilt…can you not put together a pdf for those of who are upgrading to 15K and live too far from a dealer to get personal lessons and since the educators never visit NS (always seem to be in Ontario or out west).

      Hi Debbie,
You are not the first customer to ask for this. It is definitely part of my planning to make these instructions available. Please be patient, however, as it is doubtful that I will be able to do anything for a while until my very busy travel schedule with the launch of this new Janome Mc15000 “calms down” a bit. Thank you for your patience and keep watching this blog for more info.

Beautiful! It’s most unfortunate that when all the machines come out something of this nature isn’t done.

    Thanks Liz!!!!

      Hi Jam,
Not too sure what you mean by this comment. Here in Canada we make many, many samples for a wide range of sewing & embroidery machines as well as sergers. I even show projects and garments to our customers that I make at home in my personal sewing time. We make a set of samples for all the major models as they are launched here in Canada. For example we have a set of samples for the MC7700; Mc8900 & 8200; Mc9900 ; Mc11000; Mc12000; & now Mc15000. I am all about showing proudly what our machines can do and inspiring our customers to try the same sort of thing. Quite literally I drag huge suitcases & boxes around Canada showing these samples wherever I travel! I am sorry you obviously have not had the opportunity to see some of these samples.
