TODAY, WE FOCUS ON THE BORDER GUIDE FOOT:
This is what the foot looks like: The only machine that includes the foot as a standard accessory is the JANOME HORIZON 7700QCP. The BORDER GUIDE FOOT is an optional accessory for ALL other Janome models.
The Border Guide foot is a clip-on foot so will fit any of our high or low shank models which are either 7mm or 9mm models. This foot will not be compatible with 5mm models.
What is 5mm; 7mm; 9mm? That is the opening in the needle plate and the foot – so they must correspond accordingly for obvious reasons!
If you have a 9mm machine model (all models from the Janome MC12000 onwards so includes MC8900; MC8200; MC9900; MC15000), then you would ask for Part # 202084000.
If you have a 7mm machine model, you would ask for Part # 200434003. This would be the rest of the models except for 5mm machines and, of course, the Horizon 7700 includes this foot so you should already have it if you own the Janome Horizon 7700 (unless, of course, you were careless & lost it……or forgot you had it?!)

I usually start with a line drawn with my washaway marker. This is the first line of dec. stitching where I use the red guide in the middle of the foot to “ride” along on top of my marked line.

Next comes row 3 & 5: use the parallel red Markings on either side of the foot as your guide on top of the first row of stitching to stitch row 3 & 5 to the left & right of the center/first row.

Next is row 2 & 4 – the rows in between what you have just done in row1.3 & 5. Use the first red line either side of the middle of the foot – as in pic above – to guide you beautifully straight between the dec stitching.
Of course, you can leave gaps between the rows if you prefer.

What about stitching all in white on tulle or organza and water soluble stabilizer to make your own one-of-a-kind lace???? Absolutely gone are the days I buy fancy, expensive lace edging when I can make my own SO easily and beautifully with my JANOME BORDER GUIDE FOOT!!!
And this is not all…….I have also used the Border Guide foot as a regular stitching guide when I needed more space between my needle and stitching………..WHAT OTHER USES HAVE YOU FOUND FOR THIS FOOT?
OK…….so are you now as excited about this foot as I am??? If you do not yet have it, you will probably want to see your local JANOME dealer today to buy yours. Have fun creating stunning embellishments with it.
Have this foot also from 11K machine, if I get the “ankle” for the 11k machine can’t I use this foot? Don’t believe there should be a problem with the ankle, then this foot will fit.

Sorry Claire, The border guide feet AND ankles for 11K & 15K are entirely different and are not interchangeable.

I bought the Janome Foot Book App for my iPad it has descriptions of the foot and then a video showing how to use the foot. I have found this a fantastic resource to have. i purchased this last year and it even has all the feet for the MC 15000 which I have recently purchased.

Hi Rhonda,
I did hear about this app on the “grapevine”. I believe it is a product marketed by one of the dealers so is not an official Janome product although I may be incorrect about this.
Glad you are finding it useful.

i must have totally mis-read this as i thought you said there was a border guide for all machines, then when you got to part #’s you didn’t give one for the 5mm – i really do have to write down what mine is! 3160qdc – which i think is the 5mm…. if i get to the dealer today, i shall ask.
it looks like another must have foot!! :O)
thanx

Hi Valerie,
There is a border guide foot for all 7mm and 9mm machine models. No, your 3160QDC is a 7mm (not 5mm) so you may purchase the part # I indicated in the blog post for 7mm models. You will LOVE this foot!
