Janome announces the release of another great NEW product: THE LONG BUTTONHOLE FOOT which gives Janome Mc15000 owners the ability to sew button holes from 1 to 2 inches in length when a larger button is placed into the buttonhole foot. The regular buttonhole foot R on our Janome models has the ability to make buttonholes up to 1 inch long for up to 1 inch wide diameter buttons. NOW we can make longer button holes which is especially useful for coats & jackets. Note that this LONG BUTTONHOLE foot also comes with a stabilizer plate – again, this is something that is particularly useful for thicker fabrics used for coats etc as it feeds the fabric smoothly and evenly to achieve great, neat buttonholes. I have test driven this new accessory and it gets my “thumbs up”! It works well and slickly to make neat, even longer button holes on all fabrics but especially useful for thicker fabrics. Here are some examples of my test driving of this NEW accessory:
I am always advocating that we KEEP the cardboard package material when we buy a new JANOME FOOT. I keep saying this over & over as there is always someone who has not realized that the INSTRUCTIONS and recommendations for using the foot or accessory are included on this cardboard. They toss it out with the packaging and then wonder why they don’t know how to use the foot?! The cardboard from the blister package actually opens out like a book so please keep it for future reference. I keep these all stored in much the same way I store design CD boxes. Here is a quick pic of the package instructions for the LARGE BUTTONHOLE FOOT:
I have had my Janome 15000 for awhile now and recently I took on a project that required buttonholes. I was very disappointed to learn that the buttonhole foot was not included in my accessories. I was hoping you could inform as to how to handle this situation.

Hi Carol,
There is most definitely a buttonhole foot and stabilizer plate included with the Janome MC15000. It is an advanced automatic buttonhole foot. The button hole foot is usually housed in the back tray in the accessory box which fits around the free arm. Did you look there? Did you check ALL the baggies etc? If you cannot find it, please speak with your local Janome dealer who sold you the machine. But if you are referring to the accessory we focussed on in this post, the Long button hole has always been an optional accessory. It is not a standard accessory.

Will it fit Janome DC2012? Please say yes…

Hi Jill,
WE don’t have this model in Canada but I believe that it is a 7mm low shank sewing machine model. This large button hole foot is designed for our 9mm wide stitching on the Janome MC15000. So, sorry, the answer is no, it is not compatible with this DC2012.

Hi Liz, does this new large button hole foot work on the 12000?

Hi Tina,
No, it does not. It is for the Mc15000 as per the package shown in this blog post. The Mc15000 is configured a bit differently to the Mc12000 and can therefore accommodate this Large buttonhole foot – it has a different buttonhole lever to the Mc12000.

How does one make make larger buttonholes with a 8200? And I am have problems with mine, the sensor doesn’t seem to sense how big the button is and makes inconsistent sizes of holes. It’s very frustrating. Do you have a basic post about the steps involved in making a buttonhole start to finish?

Hi Faye,
Have you followed the instruction manual for making buttonholes? It is pretty good. The steps are all there to follow. I would start there. Your local dealer where you purchased your 8200 would also be able to help you.
You don’t say what fabrics you are using – that could be a factor in inconsistent size buttonholes – might be the fabric is not feeding properly…too thick? Too slippery? Inadequate stabilizing? It is hard for me to say without having all the facts. Your dealer will be of more assistance than I can be as they will sit with you and show you how to make button holes.
Buttonholes longer than 1 inch are done using the B foot (optional accessory) and the auto buttonhole stitch rather than the sensor buttonhole program.
You may also check out the http://www.janome.com website and/or the Janome accessory video app for Apple & android smart phones & tablets. Google it….easy to find & it is free to download to your device.
