SEPTEMBER IS NATIONAL SEWING MONTH: WE MARK THE OCCASION WITH A BOOK GIVEAWAY

Just in case you did not know already & maybe did not read our post on Monday 1st September: it is NATIONAL SEWING MONTH. More information is available on the link.

To mark the occasion together with the fact that September is also back-to-school for so many kids, we decided we would do another book give-away. Thank you once again to Storey Publishing who donated the book.  We have chosen SEWING SCHOOL…21 SEWING PROJECTS KIDS WILL LOVE TO MAKE by Amie Petronis Plumley & Andria Lisle. It is another spiral bound book so you can open & flip flat without damaging the spine.  This book is a “hot” one for Moms, grandmothers, teachers and more…….

The book is jam packed with sewing projects and ideas for kids to do: pillows, toys, repairing their precious items like a teddy bear; little totes etc . A LARGE pattern envelope is also included inside the back cover. Also tons of how-to info to get even the most beginner sewer started.  Much practical advice for adults who wish to oversee kids sewing is also included.

OUR CURRENT BOOK GIVEAWAY: one of the projects in this book is a very cute little APPLE PIN CUSHION made with felt and hand sewed especially for a kiddie project. We have adapted the project and made it with our JANOME SEWING MACHINE. see pic below.  

Our apple pincushion which is the 3rd apple-a-day with JANOME!! Was super easy & quick to make. I just drew an apple shape on red felt & a stalk & leaf on black & green felt respectively. I made the leaf double to stiffen it a little. I sewed a straight line all around the apple leaving an opening to stuff and catching the stalk & leak in the seam at the top of the apple. To reinforce, I then sewed a zig-zag stitch. I then stuffed the apple with left over bits of batting. Finally I sewed the opening closed & popped in a few pins.
