WINTER SEWING…..WITH FLEECE PART 2

Our thanks to Celine for this post (see Vie Janome) and for translation software which made my task possible …..only 1 year of High School French way back when I was 13 years old does not enable me to translate this post without help. (I did get a 90% passing grade for that subject and even though that was only just a few years ago……..I still don’t think I could do it!) So thankfully there is great software now to help me.

It is possible to add piping, insert a zipper and embellish with a decorative stitch when sewing with fleece.

Decorate fleece with Janome

In January, it‘s always cold and here is a garment that will keep you toasty warm inside the house as well as outside under your  windproof coat because… you remember, the wind passes through the fleece.

Do you recognize these two stitches that are on most  Janome sewing machines? These decorative stitches are great for embellishing, adding soutache, couching, etc. The Janome foot we recommend is the H or cording foot because it is necessary to insert the cord or thick thread under the black clip located on the top of the foot and pass this into the grooves that are under the sole of the foot to hold it in place. (There are 3 grooves to use). The link gives more information about this foot as well as a video. Some Janome machine models come standard with this foot but for most models it is an optional accessory. After seeing this, you might like to order  CORDING FOOT H  from your local Janome dealer?!

On some JANOME sewing machines, there is the ‘Stretching’ or elongation function which allows us to extend the stitch to five times its original length without compromising the satin quality of the stitch.  We recommend you do a test stitch out on the fleece and find the elongation and stitch settings that work best for your desired result. 

On this fleece garment,  Celine chose to add the decorative function at the neckline, shoulders and around the sleeves; She also selected the utility function to hem the sleeves as well as covering buttons with scraps of fabric.

 Why not try this out? These mittens are very practical and keep hands warm while leaving the fingers free (easier than taking mittens on & off!). They are inexpensive to make as you will be able to use off cuts or scraps.
