Another…Where do you sew on your Janome?

Still the best part of my job is meeting people who sew!

I haven’t met her yet but hope to in the near future. Harriett Riddell is a Stitch Street Artist who creates her work in the public eye in unusual locations. She lives in the UK, but has family in Canada. So there is a chance I might get to meet her.

India had been a destination on Harriet’s do to list, because of the textiles, colours, prints and religion which have filled her imagination since the age of ten. Her quest took her to Delhi, the Himalayas, Rishikesh, Pushkar and Jaipur. Using potato sack, old clothing, tea towels and canvas, Harriett ‘sketched’ what was around her, using her Janome XL604, UK’s version our 4120QDC. She adds colour, using fabric paints and  appliqueing fabrics. I was amazed, awed and inspired by what she accomplished with just a little thread.

And what a way to travel. She carried her machine either in a backpack or in a suitcase. She also carries a folding table and chair. In this picture she even sewed on a moving cart!

I’ve taken a few pictures from her book she graciously gave us, about her trip to share with you. She was there May and June 2014.

You can contact Harriett at here website and view more pictures through her Archives.

Also had to show that she has been here in Ontario! Niagara Falls!! Hope she inspires you as well!

Happy Stitching. Linda P.

Wow, what a talented young lady! She must be strong too packing a machine around India. I would be amazed if she actually has power while sewing on that cart!

      Hi Cheryl
She actually carries around two battery packs as well as the machine, table and stool! The packs last about 3 hours each and then she charges them when she has access to electricity! And yes she was stitching on the cart.

Definitely inspiring! What does she plug her machine in to for electricity?

      Hi Cheryl,
I thought the same thing but she seems pretty resourceful……I’m sure she gets the locals to offer her an extension cord!

      Hi Cheryl,
I wondered the same thing but she is very resourceful so I’m sure she asks the locals to loan her an extension cord from their outlet!
