COUCHING WITH JANOME

A few weeks back we featured the JANOME FREE MOTION COUCHING FOOT.  I am often asked if Janome has a Couching foot for zig-zag stitch couching.  Yes, we do although it is not called a couching foot. We use the JANOME BEADING FOOT/FEET for our couching…….and these feet do a really good job of couching.

Here are some great examples of combining couching of bead strings or rat tail with decorative stitching. Think of embellishing your quilts, garments and home dec projects with the JANOME BEADING FOOT and the wonderful selection of decorative stitches on our JANOME & ELNA sewing & embroidery machines:

Check out the part numbers below to find the correct one for your Janome or Elna machine. This link also has model Number information corresponding to the correct foot:

Part# 200321006 is for 7mm wide Janome & Elna models with top loading bobbin systems. This package includes 2 feet: one for narrow cords & yarns, the other for wider cords, yarns & strings of beads.

This is the 9mm beading foot for wider cords & beads.

This is the 9mm beading foot for wider cords & beads. I usually adjust the stitch width and stitch length of the zig-zag stitch to settings which look good with my bead or cord size. I also select my thread colour carefully as well – often in much the same colour as the cord or beads as I want them to be the focus rather than my thread. Of course, I am the boss of the thread so I can choose to have  a contrast colour thread if I so choose!

Part #202097006 is for 9mm wide Janome & Elna models with top loading bobbin systems. This foot is the narrow one for thinner cords etc. See pic below which has a fine silver cord couched down with silver metallic thread:

9mm Beading foot for narrow cords. Couching was done with a zig-zag stitch about 2mm wide.

Part #202098007 is for 9mm wide Janome & Elna machine models with top loading bobbin systems. This foot is a little wider for thicker cords & strings of beads, etc. The pic below shows a length of blue “rat tail” which will be couched down with a zig -zag stitch.

Couching is a great way to add texture and dimension to a project. I frequently use couching together with decorative stitching to embellish various projects from wall hangings to garments to bags, and more

Lisa can I use the embroidery P foot of JAnome MC 9900 for janome MC 9500 and Janome 1100 0 as the embroidery P foots are plastic and they break. Can you suggest some metal foots. Thank you. God bless. Bernadette Elizabeth de Souza.

      Hi Bernadette,

I would like you to check this at your local Janome dealer store. I do not think the plastic and metal P feet are interchangeable. I am almost sure the level of the feet is different so the metal one will not work on previous models and the plastic one wont work on MC9900, MC15000 etc

Hi Liz, Love the look of the different stitches in the circle pic. Amazing how it changes the look to add the beading. Thanks for the post and happy stitching.
