Wendy, the owner of Haus of Stitches in Humboldt, Saskatchewan, recently rearranged things in her store. She has moved all the JANOME & ELNA machines to the front of the store and now has the fabric and all the rest of her inventory (which is considerable!) arranged very pleasingly throughout the store. I love the new look. I’m sure the close to 100 people who attended the annual Open House event at Haus of Stitches will agree with me: Humboldt may be a little over an hour outside the city of Saskatoon, but the happy vibe, fun and wonderful creative activities that go on in this store is very unique. Wendy has quilting fabrics & notions, garment sewing patterns & fabrics; general sewing notions, a huge supply of top notch knitting supplies; thread and sew much more. Wendy also hosts her annual Saskatchewan Stitches Conference each year in May/June as well as several knitting & sewing retreats through the year.

Wendy, Diana & I did presentations on a whole bunch of topics: sewing, quilting, new Janome machines; the Artistic Edge 15 Digital cutter; sewing & quilting notions, and more throughout the day. We finished up after dinner with a hands-on embroidery class where we had 17 ladies try out various Janome & Elna sewing and embroidery machines as they made a cute little project. It was a fun day for everyone including Wendy, Diana & I (see pic above – lots of laughs along the way).

One of the great projects Diana shared with us was how to make her corded mats – table runners, floor rugs, bath mats, etc. I bought the pattern as this captured my imagination – I really think I need to make some new bath mats for my house.
I also visited the Museum in Humboldt where there is currently an exhibit of sewing, knitting and quilting projects from Haus of Stitches – teachers and customers. I will share pics of this in an upcoming post.
Thanks Liz for the wonderful comments on your visit to Haus of Stitches. I always learn so much at events in Humboldt at Haus of Stitches.
