JANOME EMBROIDERY COUCHING: review of this new technique available since December 2015

At the request of Janome customers,  Janome is constantly developing new accessories that will add a touch of creativity to a project. This post today is particularly interesting because you can add dimension  to an embroidery design using yarn couching. Here the ‘Embroidery couching foot set’ for the Horizon Memory Craft 15000 is shown. The kit contains four pieces : PC – 1 foot for thinner yarns;  PC – 2 foot for thicker yarns; the thread guide which fits into the extra spool pin slot and the yarn “funnel”. To understand how the set operates, it is recommended to make a sample before undertaking a project. I tested a pattern on a black cloth with a white yarn in order to visualize the result. The MC15000 must be updated to version 2.11 to use this feature. You will find the free l update on the global website under the Downloads > Machine updates > Memory Craft 15000 tabs.

Here is am image showing the designs (And yes, I am translating this post from a Vie Janome blog post that Celine Ross, our Educator in Montreal wrote a few months ago. Please excuse the few French words here but they are in the pic which  I cannot change easily) 

Once all the designs have been downloaded and saved to a USB stick, you will be able to open them on the screen of the Janome MC15000. See below.  When you choose a pattern, you must then select the correct PC foot depending on the size of the yarn being used. 

Embroidery time varies between 1 & 8 minutes per pattern. The yarn is couched down with straight stitches. In the EDIT screen of the machine, it is possible to make the following adjustments: enlarge, reduce, reverse, rotate and combine.

Since these designs utilize straight stitch embroidery, it is also possible to embroider them as with a bigger yarn or even just an embroidery thread without yarn… be creative!
