JANOME CLOTHSETTER 500E is now here!

There is a new clothsetter especially for the 500E hoops which attach to the embroidery machine and clothsetter in a different way to some of the other machines. However, they have made this clothsetter somewhat “universal” as it will also accommodate other models such as the MC12000; MC15000; MC9900; Skyline S9, etc. Part # for this new Clothsetter is 859440301.  Please see your local Janome authorized dealer for further information.  Makes sense to me to move in this direction rather than having a different clothsetter for each embroidery machine.

Now what is a clothsetter and why do I need one? You may wish to check out these links:

Whenever you wish to place an embroidery design in a precise location, our Janome clothsetter (for any model) is what you need to do the job easily and almost magically. It acts as your third hand in the hooping process and I would not dream of trying to hoop properly and precisely any other way!

Whenever you are positioning multiple designs on a project that requires more than a single hooping, the Janome clothsetter is once more your very best friend. It takes the guesswork and estimation or endless fiddling with hooping & rehooping to get the crosshair in the correct spot. No, our Janome Clothsetter takes the hassle out of this process so that you can tackle complex embroidery projects without any worries that your designs will not line up perfectly.

Showing one of the Jnaome MC500E hoops attached to the Clothsetter. The red cross hair on the clothsetter arm aligns with the marked position on the fabric - where you want the center of the design to be. I like to hoop sticky stabilizer and not the fabric. Then it is supereasy to move the fabric until it is 100 correctly lined up with the red Clothsetter cross hair. Then press the fabric firmly onto the sticky stabilizer tearway or wash away both work well). I baste the fabric to the stabilizer in the hoop with the basting function before starting the embroidery stitching.

Can you afford NOT to own a Janome Clothsetter? We don’t think so, but do check out the 5 links above and also visit your local Janome dealer to ask them to show you how the Janome clothsetter works and can be SO much help to you.

      Hi Carolyn,

You don’t mention part #’s for the clothsetter you refer to but I assume you currently have Part # 859439008. Part # 859442200 is a later version of the Clothsetter – called the Universal Clothsetter which has both mounting brackets. I do not believe you can attach the 500E mounting bracket to your clothsetter as it does not have the necessary holes nor the plastic moulding on the reverse side. I also do not believe that this mounting bracket is sold separately. You could always check this with your local Janome dealer but I am inclined to think that it is not be possible to use the same Clothsetter for these 2 models without having the Universal Clothsetter.

By the way I have the holes for the 500e and it’s the same cloth setter as the new one so why can’t they sell the mounting brackets if they can’t what a waist it was for me to buy this

        Hi Carolyn,

I believe I suggested in my previous reply to you that you contact your local Janome dealer for assistance. I would suggest asking them if you can bring your clothsetter in to their store to compare it with the new universal clothsetter. If it is exactly the same and has the holes where they should be (I dont know which one you currently have) , then you can ask your dealer to enquire if the bracket is possibly available separately. I know for a fact that it is not in stock in Canada. If a Canadian dealer contacted us about this, we would enquire with our office in Japan if it is available, and order it if it is. But as said, your local dealer is the place to go to ask about this part.

I Liz, I find all your articles very informative as i am quite a newbie (I bought myself a skyline s9 last October). I got today a clothsetter (part # 859439008) as a gift from my husband and the dealer told him that it is going to work with skyline S9. I had no idea what a clothsetter was use for until I read a bit today. However through my reading I find out this might not work or fit on my skyline s9 as on Janome web site they have a different part # (859439101) for the skyline S9. So do you know if it is still going to work on my skyline S9 as my hoops seem to fit in. so what are differences between this part # and the part # listed on the Janome web site for skyline S9

    thanks

      Hi Marie-Helene,

The part # 859439008 is totally fine for your Skyline S9. AS you discovered – it does work.
Part# 859439101 is so new we dont even have it in Canada yet. This Part # is for a Universal Clothsetter which will work with many of our embroidery machines – instead of having to have a different one for each machine. You are fine with the one your husband gave you. Enjoy!

This article is incorrect in implying you can use his clothsetter interchangeably between 500e and 12000/15000 hoops. The first picture that touts the compatibility with both 12000/15000 and the 500e shows the 500e bracket mounted incorrectly (with the vertical pins to the outside of the screws). The second picture that actually shows the 500e hoop mounted on the clothsetter (with the vertical pins to the inside of the screw) is actually the correct installation. However, when the mounting bracket is in this position, the vertical pins are in the way and only the RE18 and the SQ14 hoops fit on the clothsetter. The pins are in the way if you want to attach the ASQ22, SQ23, FA10, and GR hoops.

      Hi,

Thank you for your comments. The new Clothsetter CAN be used for the machines and hoops mentioned in the post. But you are correct in that this cannot be done at the same time without a small adjustment: If you wish to switch hoopings from, let’s say, the Janome 500E to the Janome MC15000, you would need to unscrew the 500E hoop attachment plate. No big deal, it will take just a few seconds to do that. I think Janome’s purpose was to widen the scope of the Clothsetter rather than having a separate one for each different embroidery machine model.

Thanks for the info! I’ve had the cloth setter for all my machines so far, and it is worth its weight in gold – makes hooping so much easier and accurate too.
