You will probably remember previous mentions of Sherri over at Thread Riding Hood who is one of our Janome Canada Artisans sewing on the Janome Skyline S9. (which incidentally is my current go-to machine at home for all my sewing and embroidery projects. Of course I also have my sergers and a sit down quilting machine but we are talking about the Skyline S9 now)
I came across this post on Thread Riding Hood …..missed it because I was actually in South Africa at the time it was published!
I know and love South African shweshwe fabric ( of course – I used to sell it in my sewing school and store before I came to live in Canada and still have quite a bit of it in my stash). Many of my former customers would buy it to make ethnic smocked dresses for kiddies – back when I taught hand smocking in my sewing school in Johannesburg, South Africa. And my trusty domestic worker, Lydia, insisted I made her work clothing using Shweshwe – she would settle for nothing else!

I smocked this little dress many years ago using shweshwe fabric and now my little one wears it. Pics below shows close up’s of front & back of dress.
So you can imagine my delight when I met Celeste from Meerkat Trading several years ago at sewing and quilting shows in Ontario and we became ex-South African friends! And now I see Sherri knows Celeste too. What a small world…..well Ontario is not that small. Thought you might get a kick out of this post from Thread Riding hood. Sherri did another post using shweshwe fabric from Meerkat Trading. Check it out too.
