Quilting with rulers is a very ‘hot’ technique. It is not so easy to stitch a freehand pattern, so Janome makes it easy for you to work with the ruler work function on the machine. For some models of Janome sewing machines, the foot ‘QR’ is the best choice.
The Janome Bulletin below is an excellent reference to consult to understand the importance of this foot and its operation.
Janome Canada offers a set of six rulers to create unique patterns.
I used each of these ruler to practice this technique which is new to me and here is the picture of my basic results:
Janome thought of everything; to help the quilter– an instruction guide is included with the rulers. I followed this step-by-step guide to complete the exercises.
Visit your local authorized Janome dealer to see his samples and get this set of rulers!

Hi Alice,
Not sure where you are located nor what Jnaome model machine you have but you can enquire at your local Janome dealer. The QR foot only works currently on the Janome Mc15000 and the MC9400 but the Ruler work kits anyone who wishes to do ruler quilting can buy. I am referring to North America.

Hi Beverly
Thanks for the input. I assume you are referring to the Convertible Free Motion foot set: PDH foot + “ruler Foot”

Do these rulers work with the Janome memory craft 11000

Hi Willy,
Yes, as they are high shank rulers and the Mc11000 is a high shank machine.

I just bought the upgrade for the 9400 specially for the ruler foot, but the foot sits firmly on the material and does not slide under the foot to do free motion or even using a ruler. I did lower the feed dogs and it does not slide. Is there a way to adjust the height to get the material to move easily under the ruler foot?

Hi Doris,
Are you accessing Ruler quilting through the Sewing applications menu? Quilting >> Ruler work. THis is essential in order to do Rulerwork – the upgraded MC9400 will set up the machine for you and you wont have the foot too low – as you report. Also please check that your machine was indeed upgraded successfully with the USB stick in the upgrade kit following the booklet which was supplied in the kit. Switch off and switch on again and note the version # in the bottom right of the opening screen: It should be version 2.1. If not, then you need to upgrade the machine exactly as directed in the booklet.

I read the comments above and you mentioned that the ruler foot is only for the 9400 and the QM15000. Any plan for the MC6700P? I have both the MC15000 v3 and a MC6700P. As I tend to sew and embroider at the same time, it would be great to be able to use the 6700 for quilting. I bought the 6700 because it use the same pressure foot as the 15000 and I absolutely love it!

Hi Danie,
Please consult the many posts we have done on janomelife on ruler quilting. The MC6700P comes standard with the Convertible Free motion foot set and all that needs to be added to this is the “ruler foot” attachment Part #767434005. The MC6700P does not require the QR foot as it it is not an auto presser foot lift model. The QR foot is only for upgraded auto presser foot lift machines – the MC15000 and MC9400.

I bought the upgrade kit and ruler set for my 9400. I am trying to make the ruler holder with the instructions that came with the ruler set but I think I am missing parts of the directions. Is there anywhere online I can access them?

Hi Kathy,
Unfortunately I don’t know what you received in your package. You should have a DVD which has full instructions as a video. There is also a booklet with full instructions of how to make the project with photo’s and written instructions. I will say that the order of the written instructions is a little other than I would have expected so do flip through the whole book. It is all there but not quite in a logical order.
If you have these both, you should have all you need to make the ruler pouch. If you do not, please go back to your Janome dealer where you bought the Ruler kit and ask them about it. Possibly they can photocopy the instructions for you? I doubt very much we have separate instruction booklets or DVD’s available.

Hi!
I have a Janome QDC2030. Is this ruler foot suitable for this model?
Does it need the convertible free motion quilting foot?
I’m interested in trying ruler quilting.
Thank you.

Hi Edna,
No, this QR foot is only for the Mc15000 and MC9400 at this time. But Yes, the Low Shank Convertible Free Motion foot set + “ruler foot” (as explained on many previous janomelife blog posts) is available to you for your QDC2030.
You will have a great deal of fun quilting with rulers and will love the neat results you will achieve.

Do these rulers work with the Janome Quilt Pro 18?

Hi Dawn,
This Janome set of rulers are for HIGH SHANK sewing machines. Yes, you could use them on the Quilt Maker Pro 18 but we would rather recommend that you look at purchasing the slightly thicker rulers made especially for longarms.

Thanks, Liz! I did purchase the set as I have the Janome 15000v3. Finding quality rulers for the longarm is proving to be a challenge. Do you have any recommendations? Thank you, Liz!

Hi Dawn,
Thank you for your interest and query. The Ruler set for high shank models is the only set of rulers Jnaome currently has on offer. Please ask your local Janome Dealer or Quilting store to source these for you and ensure they know you need rulers for a high shank model. There are rulers for low shank and for longarm quilting machines so it is important to buy the correct ones for your specific type of machine.
