Fearless Sewing for the {slightly Terrified}

One of the topics on our current Education Menu of Events at Janome Canada Dealer’s stores this Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 is called Fearless Sewing for the {slightly Terrified}.

We are aware  – because you tell us – that there are some sewing techniques that scare you and consequently you probably avoid them like the plague?! Things like inserting a zipper; sewing buttonholes; doing free motion quilting; or using our Janome Quilt binder attachment. Wouldn’t you like to be able to rise above these fears and get some great sewing done?

So we came up with a hands-on Round Robin style event where you will be able to try out various different techniques in a relaxed and non-threatening environment on a variety of our wonderful Janome machines. Our Janome Canada Artisan, Tania (at I am Ginger Quilts  ) + yours truly have come up with more than a dozen “scary” sewing techniques for you to try out to discover it is actually rather easy when you know how and have the right tools to help you! You won’t need to bring anything with you……just a smile and a readiness to let go of your sewing fears!

We have projects and samples to show you; detailed instruction notes to follow + ideas for what you can do with all the little technique samples you stitch out. Many people who have already attended this event have told us what fun it was and how wonderful it was to realize some things they were afraid of,  were really not that stressful after all!

Some of our Janome customers have already had the opportunity to sign up for and attend this event at their local Janome Canada Dealer.  We have a few events coming up soon with more next year …..at some Janome Dealer stores around Canada .

Good progress being made on one of the techniques in this event: straight stitch applique using our Janome Horizon MC15000 Quilt Maker.  (This technique can be done on all of our Janome sewing machines. )

And another customer discovering that our famous coverhem serger: our Janome CPX2000 is so easy to use.

Does inserting a zipper freak you out? Fear no more! Wait until you see our super easy method of inserting a zipper into bags, jackets and more……..we show you how at our Fearless Sewing events in Canada

Would you like to join us and banish those sewing fears?

Ask your local Janome Canada Dealer today if/when they might be hosting a Fearless Sewing {for the slightly terrified} event in your area.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Liz, I have been trying to activate colour grouping because I have a design with many changes. Is there a secret? When I het to the page that I would’ve to select colour grouping, that key is greyed out. Thanks.,

      Hi Terry,
I assume you are trying to do this in the edit mode? If so, colour grouping only works in edit mode with duplicated designs. Eg you corner a design with 3 colours. Now you have 12 colour changes. Use colour grouping to reduce it back to 3 colours so it will stitch one colour in each corner & then the next etc. But if you have the same colour repeated multiple times in one design, the colour grouping does not work in edit mode.
However, you CAN group colours in Embroidery software and I think it can also be done in AcuDesign App as well.

This sounds like a great idea. So many people are afraid to try techniques like zippers, welt pockets, piping, buttonholes, not realizing that they can practice on scraps as they perfect the technique.

With bag making becoming so popular these skills are needed.

Often practice material, zippers, buttons etc, can be purchased at thrift shops, so the cost of learning the technique is low.

Is there anything like this – like all of these Canadian events – in the US??

      Hi Lucy,

I would suggest you contact your local Janome dealer and ask them what events they might have planned going forward into 2019. Janome America and Janome Canada are different subsidiaries so we don’t necessarily offer exactly the same Education events. However, I can tell you that our Sew hAPPy event is based on and largely the same as one that has been taught at Janome America dealer stores and was designed by Michelle, one of the Janome America Educators. I believe it is also called Sew hAPPy! It would be worth asking!

      Hi Judy,

We have just started booking our January – June 2019 events with our dealers so it is early days yet. The best is to ask your local Janome dealer to contact us to book events that you have heard about and might be interested in attending.
