These new 1/4 inch ruler feet are NOT applicable to the following machines: MC9450 (and MC9400 upgraded to MC9450); MC15000 and the Continental M7 – These models all have rulerwork mode in the Sewing applications menu and use the (included) QR rulerwork foot. The QR foot is perfect for these 3 Janome models so they do NOT require these new feet explained below.

Absolutely YES. You will need to purchase the Ruler foot and some rulers/templates. We have done many posts on janomelife on this topic so please do a search in the search box to the right on the home page of janomelife. You can also ask your favourite Janome Dealer for information on the NEW ruler foot which we launched in January this year. I did a blog post in Jnauary about these new feet – I think this is the one you rea already. Your MC6650 is high shank 9mm. Your Dealer can also assist you with our Janome Rulerwork set (also showned on Janome Life several times) or our new Sew Comfortable templates and accessories which we also blogged about in January this year.
Have fun learning ruler work. It is a game changer for free motion quilting!

Can I use this new ruler foot for high shank machines Part # 202 441 009.on my Janome 12000. Is only the foot needed, nothing else?

YES, that is the part # you need – your MC12000 is a high shank machine. And no, you dont need anything else to do ruler work except rulers/templates and a quilt!

I keep reading about upgrading. My Horizon 12000 has not been upgraded since I bought it should it be?

if you switch your Mc12000 on, check in the bottom right corner of the opening screen what the version of your MC12000 is. Be quick as that only stays there for a second or 2. Then check if it is version 1.2 as per this machine update offered on our Janome Global site. If not, then please follow the instructions on the global site on this link to update your machine. https://www.janome.co.jp/e/e_downloads/mc12000v120.html

Hi Sis,
We would not recommend that. The QR foot is the ruler work foot that should be used on the MC9400 once it has been upgraded to include ruler work in the Sewing Applications Menu. These feet, as mentioned in the blog post are not compatible with machines which use the QR foot.

Oh dear, I am sad to hear that. I will just have to go without I guess and use templates as before. The upgrade is not available where I live so I don’t have that option.

Hi Sis,
This upgrade SHOULD be available from any of our Janome dealers – provided we have it in stock at our warehouses. It is a box with the applicable feet and a USB stick + booklet of instructions – YOU do the upgrade. If your local Janome Dealer is not able to order it for you, then why don’t you try online and see if another dealer can ship it to you? I am assuming, of course, that you live in North America. I cannot speak for availability in other countries.
Good luck – You should be able to purchase the upgrade. And I would recommend it.

I have this new ruler foot and it works very well on my Janome MC6500p. Still practicing but so far I’m very pleased. Contacted Janome in Manchester (UK) and purchased direct – excellent service and delivery!

Yes, the second paragraph in this blog posts states that these new ruler feet are for ALL other Janome machines not listed in paragraph 1. Your S9 is a high shank 9mm model so you need Part # 202 441 009.

I was told I couldn’t have one because of the automatic foot lift up when you stop.
