Janomelife wants to help and we need your suggestions to best deliver what you need.

I’m not going to dwell on the current Covid-19 virus issue as I think we are all  following the news locally as well as nationally  and internationally. So we should all be very well aware of what we can do to help prevent the spread of the virus – washing hands, not touching our faces, staying at home as much as possible etc.

We know, if you are reading this, that you are more than likely a sewer or quilter or machine embroiderer and have come to expect regular posts from Janomelife on a variety of sewing related topics and Janome specific content. As you know, we publish posts a minimum of 3 times per week for your sewing edification and enjoyment. We have a team of people working consistently on this to deliver great sewing information, inspiration and ideas for you. How can you find and access this info? Browse through the archives or use the search box just to the right of this………….there is plenty to get you inspired and excited to sew! AND it is free and available to anyone who visits janomelife.

Our 550E monsters are another fun and simple project to make. Be sure to stock up on thread, stabilizer, fleece(or flannel or minkee)  and toy stuffing.

It is my guess that if you are at all like me, you have plenty sewing you can do. In fact, truth be told, if I had to stay at home for 6 months, I still do not think I will have got even close to using up all of my stash (quilting and/or garment fabrics) or finishing all my UFO’s! I think I would probably have “cabin fever” but I would still be sewing on…..!

Are these not the cutest little baskets? The video tutorial and full instructions as well as the design is available on Janome USA You Tube channel where you will also find loads more video’s and project inspiration. Here is the link:

HOWEVER…….

What if I don’t have projects or supplies currently at home to get sewing on?

What if  I should run out of a particular fabric or need some thread or want to buy a new sewing tool or sewing machine?

Here at janomelife we would like to suggest that you deal with this without delay.  Our Janome and Elna stores across Canada (and we are pretty sure in many other countries too) would be more than happy to assist you with any sewing supplies you might need. If you cannot go out or they are operating on reduced hours, I’m pretty sure they will mail to you……… Problem solved!! So, keep calm, call your favourite Janome or Elna Dealer/Sewing/Quilting store and SEW ON! Just think of all the fabulous projects you will be able to complete ………… We are really looking forward to hearing what you are sewing!

We would like to throw open wide our janomelife comment box as well as our Janome Canada pages on Instagram and Facebook.  Please send us your thoughts and queries. We WANT to hear from you. In times like these, let’s all pull together, help one another and spread the Janome and Elna love:

  • Are you in self-isolation? We are all being asked to stay home if at all possible so my guess is that most of us are in this particular spot right now, or close to it. Let’s encourage one another to “Keep calm and keep sewing”

Remember these baggies? See our post in January 2020 called 336 days until Christmas – great charity sewing idea to keep you busy.

  • What are you doing to combat the social isolation and/or boredom?  Those of us who are passionate about sewing and quilting should have no problem finding things to keep our hands and minds busy. However, what about considering what I suggested in this post a short while ago?  (Pic above) You are very welcome to contact janomelife and we will send you the design and instructions for these little in-the-hoop baggies – as per the offer in this post.
  • What sewing suggestions do you have to share with janomelife viewers? What are you currently busy sewing or quilting or embroidering?

Perhaps youd like to check out Janome Canada artisan Trina’s lovely post on Feb 28th where she showed how she made a great vinyl storage bucket /basket with machine embroidery.

  • Do you have any specific sewing needs that you would like us to address while you are “hibernating” at home? Please send us any and all requests as our team is poised ready to make more video’s and publish more posts to assist you and help the Janome and Elna sewing communities as much as we can in these difficult times. You may send comments, suggestions and ideas in the comment box below or on our Janome Canada Instagram or Facebook pages – We read these all.

  • Do you need help with something on your Janome or Elna sewing machine? Normally we would suggest you contact your local Janome or Elna dealer and you can obviously still do that.  We do already respond to comments and queries on janomelife, IG and FB. However, we would also like to offer you additional help  during this  health crisis: Send us your queries and we will do our best to answer you promptly and get you sewing on and staying calm?! If we need to call you online to assist you further than what we can do with a written reply, we will try our best to make this happen. Please know that we do not monitor our social media pages 24/7 and we do have many different time zones, so please be patient…….Rest assured, we will respond to your queries as soon as we can during our Janome Canada business days.

Now would be a really go0d time to go back into our janomelife archives and work steadily through Janomegirl’s posts already offered on Artistic Digitizer Software …….or Janomeman’s posts on Horizon Link Suite.
Use the janomelife search box to find these – there are LOTS! And send us your queries as you do this self learning. Let us help you move your software skills to the next level.

WATCH THIS SPACE……more inspiration and video’s will come as soon as we get your suggestions for topics and more.

Thank you for asking. I have enjoyed your posts and know you have customers with many different machines with many different features. I am a long time quilter and a beginner free motion quilter. I would appreciate some detailed instruction on setting up the machine for this and how to operate the machine to get a good stitch. I have a MC 6700P. Great Job! I appreciate all the businesses who are trying to help us while we are homebound.

Extremely thoughtful of you all. What would we do without our many craft projects and also knowing none of us are alone where ever we are, at this very difficult time. Thank you.

Thank you, Joy. Hoping the virus is not grabbing hold of Australia. It seems it is the colder climates that are being hit now. Apparently these virus’es dont do so well during the summer and in hotter weather. Let’s hope they get a vaccine before it heads south!

      Hi Sally,

Please refer to page 121 & 122 of your instruction manual for information on cleaning out the bobbin area of your machine.
There is only ONE place to oil: that is a drop or 2 of oil on the wick in the middle of the hook race (area into which the bobbin case fits). Please refer to this previous janomelife post where we covered this information and showed pics of where to oil: https://janomelife.wordpress.com/2017/02/08/are-you-embroidering-up-a-storm/
For the rest of service and maintenance, you will need the assistance of your Janome dealer.

What a wonderful message, thank you. I too have more projects than I will get done in 6 months, but I’ve been working away this week. I really enjoy all the Janome emails. Keep them coming!

Liz, I think you are fabulously knowledgeable about Janome products. I have been to some of your classes and always come away feeling better about what I am doing and gain invaluable insight. Thank you!
While doing my part and staying home, I would love to take this time to get to know and be very familiar with the Artistic Edge Cutter! Any and all information, and even better, videos! would be so much appreciated! I am comfortable with my Janome Horizon 15000, and 550E, but the cutter has me baffled. Appliqué, vinyl cutting for ITH projects, snaptabs, keyfobs, etc are all items I would love to be able to use the cutter for. Most people I know that have it are moving to the silhouette, Cricut and Brother SNC because of lack of education on the Artistic Edge. PLEASE do some videos on the Artistic Edge Cutter and software?

      Hi Gwen,

Not sure where you attended some of my classes but possibly not on the Edge Cutter? I have taught quite a few times around Canada on this topic. And what a pity people feel there has not been enough education on the Edge cutter as actually there IS a lot.
But no matter, I will send you, by email, a set of notes and a few other attachments I have for the Edge Cutter. Hope you find these useful. There is also a couple of links here to further information and some video’s which should also be helpful to you:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WEMNI7_740 (look further on Kim’s You Tube Chatterbox Quilts channels as she has done other video’s too)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUOrLCS2Pc4 – this Janome America store has other You Tube video’s so check out their links as well.
And here is another video – this time from Trevor Conquergood on the Simple Cut software.

That should set you well on your way to wrapping your head around our Artistic Edge cutter!
Watch for mt email. It will come soon.

You concentrate a lot on the newer fancy machines. How about a few blogs about the lovely 9450 or 500e. Many of us don’t have the newer machine like the 550 or the M7 nor can we use the apps.

      Hi,

I really do not think you have looked closely enough at janomelife! We have been doing a regular – at least 1 post per month – on the MC9450 for years (on the Mc9400 and then MC9450 -essentially very similar machines). This is generally done by one of our artisans, Kim, from Chatterbox quilts – usually the second Friday of every month on janomelife (sometimes a different Friday depending on how the month falls). But we have done others too. Probably literally dozens of posts! I lost count after 20. Please do a search in the search box for Mc9450. I think it will surprize you just how much we have actually posted on this machine. Please also do a search for 500E as we have posted a lot on that machine too. Much of what is on the 550E is the same as the 500E so you can also look at those posts. And do hop on over to Chatterbox Quilts where Kim has even more info on the Mc9450 and some on the 500E which she also owns.
And you CAN use some of the apps on the 500E: please look at posts where we have talked about AcuSketch and AcuDesign. Both can work with non WIFI machines.

      Hi,
One other thing as regards the MC9450 and 500E – after you have done a comprehensive search on Janome life and Chatterbox Quilts (link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZ77kmw-D5RvdQCCgL1IWTw ) and have looked at all the many posts we have done on these machines, please send us another comment if there are topics we may have missed or what specifically you feel we have not posted about? We will try to fix that if we can.
