Janome Life

Meet our newest Janome Canada Educator!

I’m so excited to introduce to you our new Educator, Monique! I had the opportunity to spend some time and get to know her, which I thoroughly enjoyed! She’s from Ontario and is an avid quilter. She’s even designed her own quilt patterns!

Below is a transcript of our conversation, and you can click here to see her bio on our website

This light blue and white quilt is a King size quilt called Full Bloom. It is my own design that I used EQ7 to design and piece.  I custom quilted it on a Long Arm machine using Hand Guiding and rulers.  I used 2 kinds of batting: cotton on the bottom and wool on the top to provide some loft.  It has won Viewers Choice, Judge’s Choice (Kathy Wylie), Best Overall at the Ottawa Valley Quilt show, Best Long Arm.  Made in 2015

E: So tell us, what is your earliest sewing memory?

M: My earliest sewing memory was in high school, grade 9 Home Economics class.  Although my mom tells me I was sewing or playing with her green Singer Sewing machine long before that, I just don’t remember.  In this all girls class, we made an apron to use later in the cooking and baking part of the class.  There were many machines available but I remember all my friends wanting me to help them out since I was the only one who had sewing experience.

The Red and White maple leaf is called “Canadian Bear”, designed on EQ7. It has hand guided quilting and ruler work.  80/20 Hobbs batting was used.  It won awards for best overall hand guided category.

E: Why do you love Janome?

M: I love Janome machines for the  versatility and their ability to adapt to new trends.  Janome is always keeping up with new innovative ways for Sewist and Quilters to make beautiful things.

The red and white Flying Geese quilt is a Zen Chic pattern called Red Geese.
It was custom quilted using a computer and the robotics of the long arm machine.

E: If you had a sewing super power, what would it be?

M: My Sewing Super Power would be to become Genie from “I Dream of Genie” and I would shake my ponytail (I know I don’t have a ponytail) and have all my stitched errors unpicked in a second.  Then I could spend more time sewing.

This wall hanging Maple Leaf quilt is a small wall hanging that I (Monique) designed. I cut up all kinds of red scraps, fused them together and then appliqued it to the background.  I satin stitched the edges and added the trees.

E: What’s your favourite thing about sewing?

M: My favourite thing about sewing is when I am actually sitting at my sewing machine listening to the hum of the well running machine, it’s relaxing.  I love it when it rains or snows outside so I don’t have to feel guilty being inside sewing.  I love the satisfaction I get when I see how happy someone is when I give them a quilt or a bag I have made.  I know how grateful they are to receive this project that I designed and made especially for them.

The truck is a Laura Heine pattern called Old Blue. Mine is red because the first truck I owned was red, my favourite colour.

E: What’s your favourite Janome machine?

M: My favourite Janome machine is always the most current machine I have.  Right now I have the Janome 9450QCP.  I used to own the Janome MC6600P and at the time it was my favourite.  What I love most about the Janome 9450QCP is the AcuFeed Flex System, perfect for all my projects.

We are all so excited to have Monique on our Education Team, and we look forward to seeing all her creativity flourish for the benefit of our Janome Canada Dealers and customers.

Until next time,
