Happy New year! AND information about upcoming Online classes with Janome Canada

2020 has certainly been a year not many of us are going to forget! Amidst all the worry and sadness and sacrifices that so many have made this year, there is the knowledge that there are some very special people who go the extra mile in times of trouble and despair to do what they can to ease pain and suffering. We salute you all – the medical people (including doctors, nurses, care aids, other hospital staff, ambulance staff) and many more who have worked on through this pandemic despite exhaustion and added risks to their own safety. Thank you to you all for what you have done to try to keep us safe and to assist with those who were/are ill.  And let’s also appreciate our family and friends who have stayed in touch, shared troubles and offered kind words when we needed those.

Top of my Wish List is that there will be an end to the menace of this virus soon and to being able to at least partially resume life as we used to know it. It may never be completely the same again, but it will get better. And hopefully we have all learned to be wiser and kinder through this experience?

There are some exciting things in store here at Janome (there always are?!) which will be revealed in due course in the months ahead. First up is our virtual/online classes which will resume in early January. Please see details below of what is coming. We are repeating a number of the classes we taught through our Janome Canada dealers this Fall as we heard many of you did not know about these classes and have specifically asked for us to teach them again because you missed out.  Be sure to register this time as we may not keep repeating these classes. We are also offering some new topics which we will feature in the coming weeks. Hands-on classes have been added – also due to requests from many of you.

*** Register for our online classes with participating Janome Canada Dealers. See more below***

Please remember that attending a virtual class is as close as we can get to in-store in-person classes at this time. AND you get to ask questions in real time which our educators address right there during the class. This is NOT the same as watching a video which is a pre-recording with no live educators present to address your specific real time queries.

  1. I loved your class today ,nice job. Are you able to give the starting values for the cutter using the grinding, punching, and etching tools. Or where I can find them.

      Hi Marlene,
Thanks, I’m glad you loved the class. I will look for the info you seek but as I have not used those optional accessories, I am not sure I will be able to tell you much. Did you try Customer Service at Janome America as they did more with the accessories than we did here is Canada. We do not always carry the same items they have. You could also try the tech support line I listed in the class today plus on your class supply/prep list. They may be able to assist.

      • Just to let you know I have been using all kinds of pens with the cutter. The felt pens you need to be careful with because they go dry and the tip goes flat if you are using a large design. Also bleeds to the back of the card stack. I do not use the pen holder very much. The pens fit in the holder very well. The only thing I find is you need to watch the pen because it sometimes becomes loose in the holder and then starts to wobble. You hit the pause on the machine tighten the screw, hit the pause again and off you go. Also if you use paint for the fill and outline the paint and draw will work. You can use fill, zigzag, and row fill. I have used canvas to draw on als.o Thought I would shareMarlene

        Hi Marlene,

Thanks for sharing. It is always good to hear what people have been trying and have had success with or what to avoid.

I live in a suburb of Chicago, Illinois. The store where I purchased my Artistic Edge does not offer any classes on this product and I haven’t been able to find any others in my area. Would I be able to sign up for the upcoming class scheduled for 2/1 and 2/8? If so, who should I contact to register. I’m really looking forward to learning how to use this.

    Dear Liz,

Happy New Year! Even if we attend the live event can we still receive a video. I find I always miss or forget things and it would nice to be able to review or look up anything missed or forgotten.

I remember reading on this blog in the Spring that the cutter would longer be available as the manufacturer was defunct. I would be interested in the Artistic Edge Cutter class if they will be available again? I do not currently own one.

      Hi Connie,
There are some Artistic Edge cutter 12’s still in stock. After those are gone, yes, the cutters will be discontinued. And no, we cannot get more as our manufacturer no longer makes them.

      Hi Marlene

We thank you for your interest in these virtual classes. These are offered by Janome Canada and therefore need to be booked through one of our Janome Canada dealers. We provided a list in this blog post of participating dealers at the time of publishing the post. You are welcome to contact any of these dealers to register for the classes.

      Hi Shannon-Tara

As I’m sure you will appreciate, it is extremely difficult to find a time to suit everyone as well as accommodate our huge time zone differences – almost an impossible task! Yes, you can view the class at a later time: I would suggest you contact your dealer, register for the class(es) you want, and please tell your dealer you won’t be able to attend in real time but would like a recording of the class. We will make that video available to you – through your dealer – after the class. It is not the same as attending in real time and being able to ask the presenter your questions. But it is the best we can suggest at this time. If we offer these same class topics again in February onwards, I will try to offer them on different days but – as already said – there will always be some who find those times unsuitable.

    Hi!
I’m excited to see the classes and am really interested in the cover hem and artistic edge classes. I’m disappointed they are both on mondays because I work (teacher) mondays so I won’t be able to take either of them. Any chance of a Friday class??
