We Remember

Today is November 11th, a day of reflection and pride as we honor the brave men and women who have served, and sacrificed to keep our country strong and free.

While there are many ways to help show your support, one cause particularly near and dear to my heart, and Janome Canada’s is the Quilts of Valour – Canadian Society; an organization which distributes quilts to men and women in the Canadian Armed Forces. Over 17,000 quilts have been gifted, including the one in the photo below which I made several years ago using the Oh Canada line of fabric from Northcott Fabrics. Part of the proceeds from the fabric sales is donated to the QOV.

One of my friend’s father, who fought in World War 2, received a quilt from Quilts of Valour shortly before he passed away. They even presented the quilt to him in the hospital, and his daughter, (my friend) treasures that quilt today.

Janome Canada has also partnered with Quilts of Valour – Canada Society by creating the special Janome 3160 QOV-C (Quilts of Valour – Canada) sewing machine. Proceeds from the sale of the machine are donated to QOV.

A few years back, I was fortunate to attend one of the ceremonies where the quilts were gifted to veterans of World War 2. To see a 90 year old man moved to tears as he was wrapped and hugged in the quilt volunteers had made for him made the whole room of about 50 people reach for their tissues. Such a special moment.

I’ll always remember that.
