These are a few of my favourite things….on the Janome Skyline S9

I feel so lucky to have been using the Janome Skyline S9 for several years now. I’ve kinda “grown up” in the Janome Skyline family here on the Janome Life blog. I started with the Janome Skyline S5, moved on to the Janome Skyline S7, then made the step-up to embroidery with the Janome Skyline S9!

A Halloween project from October 2019 that I shared on the Janome Live blog.

I have been creating everything from complicated embroidery designs; dresses and other apparel items for myself and my daughter; quilts; home décor, and more. I’ve created things which are functional and other things which are FUN!

With all that in mind, I’ve created a list of my TOP FIVE things I love about the Janome Skyline S9!

  1. The Superior Needle Threader

I spent many, many years sewing on Janome machines without a needle threader. I wouldn’t necessarily call it a deal breaker but it is certainly a feature that is really convenient to have. Once you’ve used it for a while, you forget what it is like to thread your own needles having to get the thread juuuuussst right and lined up with the eye of the needle. And, if you’re someone like me who has recently switched to *ahem* progressives (eek!) you know that not having to worry about where everything is lining up in your line of sight, is just another time saver.

It’s also a time saver when you are doing an embroidery design that has multiple thread changes. You can quickly and easily thread your next colour, like when I make these fun kitchen towels as Christmas and hostess gifts last year.

2. Wifi Capabiltiy

That’s right, WIFI! I love this feature on the Janome Skyline S9! No cords to misplace or USBs to have to find files on. Sending embroidery designs from an iPad or computer straight to the sewing machine is easy with WIFI.

When using the free Janome AcuMonitor app, I can even monitor projects on my iPad from a completely different room from my home! This app lets me know that my project is working away; when I need to return for a thread change, and how much time is left to finish the design. It will also indicate any error messages such as thread breaks.

3. Automatic Thread Cutter

While I’m listing these in no particular order, this has to be one of my favourite of the favs. What a time saver!

I realized how much I have come to depend on this feature the other weekend when I was working on a quilt top. These blocks are a Courthouse Steps design (specifically called Courthouse Colourplay by Krista Hennebury) and you could work through one block rather quickly if you had everything at the ready. If I had to stop to cut the threads manually every time I started a new section of the block, it wouldn’t have allowed me to get into the rhythm that I did, which ultimately allowed for me to finish my quilt top that weekend!

4. Adjustable Speed

The Janome Skyline S9 lets you take control of the speed to go as fast or as slow as you’d like. Using the included AcuFeed Flex foot or Darning Foot to finish off a quilt top? Put it in high speed and GO!

Need to be able to have a little more control when you are doing free motion quilting? Slow it down and take things at a pace where you can work comfortably on your hand/eye coordination. Not only is the adjustable speed for sewing projects and bobbin winding, it’s also for embroidery projects on the Janome Skyline S9! Have a design with a lot of intense detail? Slow down the stitch speed so you can closely monitor the progress. Doing some basic embroidery lettering? Move the slider to the right to increase the adjustable speed and get your projects done in no time fast.

5. Versatility

I know, I know… I probably say this every single time I talk about the Janome Skyline S9 but… one of the things that I love the most is that the Janome Skyline S9 can do it all! Sewing, Quilting and Embroidery! While specialized machines can be great; sometimes you do want a dedicated machine, this is the workhorse of the Janome Skyline family. I’ve really enjoyed being able to switch easily and quickly from sewing to embroidery without having to pull out another machine.

Thanks for allowing me to do a little walk down memory lane today as I shared some of my favourite features on this machine.

Do you have a Janome Skyline S9? What is your favourite feature? What would you like to know more about with regards to the Janome Skyline S9? It would be my pleasure to show you!

      Hi Judy!
Thank you! Yes, Trina always does a fabulous job, no matter which machine she’s used, but she’s particularly fallen in love with the Skyline S9, which I completely understand why. Happy Sewing!
