Yes, can you believe it? The middle of February already?! Don’t worry if you don’t have all your Valentine’s Day projects and gifts completed. There’s still time!

Click the INSPIRE tab, then scroll down the page till you see the Embroidery section and View Designs. There you’ll find loads of free embroidery designs which are fun, easy and quick to stitch out in whatever Janome embroidery machine you have.
I found this adorable heart below on Page 4 and copied the JEF (Janome Embroidery File) onto a USB Flash Drive, then plugged the Drive in to the USB port in the side of my Janome MC 550E. Any of our modern Janome embroidery, and embroidery-combo machines have USB ports to quickly and easily transfers designs from your computer. Some machines also come with a direct connect cable to connect your computer to the machine to transfer designs, but I find the USB Flash Drive is easiest for me so I don’t always have to take my laptop down my to sewing room.
The Free Heart Flies embroidery design was a good backdrop to customize by adding lettering from the embroidery machine. Type a phrase, or a name, or even stitch another embroidery design somewhere in the heart, or on the wing. The choice is yours! The projects found in the INSPIRE tab on Janome.CA are meant to be a springboard for your own individual creativity. Do the projects as suggested, or substitute your own colours and fabrics; switch up some of the design elements to truly make it your own. That’s one of the joys of sewing!
If you look carefully at the two hearts above, you may notice that the lower heart has been flipped vertically using mirror image, one of the many Edit functions built in to Janome embroidery machines. Increase or decrease the size; rotate; and copy to create multiples of the designs are some of the ways you can further customize.
Customize even more by using the embroidery design in a unique way.
The Hearts Flies embroidery was likely meant to be stitched onto a sweatshirt, or another similar application, but I decided to do something different. I stitched it onto felt and cut around it so it could be used as an applique, or, as a little basket to hold some Valentine’s Day goodies to gift to someone special. To create the back piece of the “basket”, I traced around the completed embroidered piece onto another piece of felt, then carefully stitched along the outside of the embroidery using matching thread on my sewing machine. Yes, I changed to red thread when I stitched around the heart. lol! I used the fabulous Janome polyester embroidery thread to embroider the design and stitch around the edges to create the “basket”.
Other cute projects I found in the Embroidery section of the INSPIRE tab on Janome.CA are this Fancy Hearts pillow which has multiple designs to download. Combine like the sample, or use the hearts individually on other projects. Bonus – these designs stitch out in a flash, so you still have time to make some special Valentine’s Day gifts before the day is over!
Since love is universal, stitch some expressions of love with an international flair using this free embroidery design.
