NEW Minor Update for the Janome CM17

I know, I know! I know exactly what you’re thinking…. The Janome Continental M17 just launched in April of this year, and there’s already an update??? What’s up with that?!

Yes, there is an update, but, not to panic! It’s only a very minor update and you ultimately don’t really need to do it if you don’t want, or need to. The update is to simply allow for the embroidery hoop socket (which the embroidery hoops clip into) to move to the centre position while the embroidery arm moves to the home position on the left hand side of the carriage.

The update will produce a new button, accessible through the Functions Menu, on the large LCD screen to select this as an option whenever you’re going to pack up your embroidery carriage in the original box with the Styrofoam insert. The embroidery arm must be in the left hand position and the embroidery hoop socket must be in the centre position for the upper Styrofoam insert to fit over the carriage. Full details are on the Janome Global Site with step by step instructions for you to update your machine whenever you wish.

Yes, this does seem as a bit of an afterthought as most of us unpack our machines, get rid of the boxes and purchase sewing machine luggage, like Tutto bags and roller totes, to transport the machine. However, some people do prefer to save the boxes and packaging to transport their machines that way, so this update is for dealers and consumers who may wish to repack the embroidery carriage in the original box if ever they have to move it. Or of course, you may want to do the update to return that hoop socket to the centre even if you’re not going to repack the carriage. It is always a good idea to keep your machines updated as they happen, so you never have to wonder or worry about catching up down the road.

If you later change your mind, however, the update will always be available on the Janome Global Site.

Even better news, the update can be done by you, at home, very easily using a USB flash drive to download the update to your computer, then transfer it over to the USB stick and into the machine. You do NOT have to take your machine into the dealership. Tip: Be sure to unzip the update files before you transfer to the USB stick. Save them to your computer, then copy them to the USB stick. Again, full instructions are on the Janome Global Site which walks you through the update step by step, and click the link to watch the little video I prepared on the Janome HQ You Tube channel.

I installed the firmware, but the luggage foam must be cut wrong. The cutout in the foam is a little off-center, so it doesn’t go around the embroidery module’s hoop attachment piece when it is centered.

HI Tammy. Isn’t that CM17 luggage set gorgeous?! Unfortunately, I don’t have a set 😦
Does it make a difference; will it align better if you flip that foam insert the other way round? If not, you can slightly move the carriage hoop attachment into position if needed, or you can cut the foam, so it aligns better. Perhaps the measurements were a little off at the factory, but it’s an easy fix.

Thanks for the suggestions, and, yes, the set is beautiful! I did try to flip the top foam, but it didn’t work. I think I’m going to use my Kaizen utility knife and some glue to fix the case. If I make some fabric slipcovers for the Kaizen foam pieces, no one will be able to tell. LOL. It seems to be a widespread issue, based on Facebook comments. Can this be reported to the factory?

Yes, we will pass along the feedback to our parent company to relay to the factory. Thank you sew much for sharing the Janome Love!

Hello, I really goofed on the download. When I downloaded to my thumb drive, I opened the .bin file and Adobe acrobat tried to open it. I attempted to re download the update but the .bin file lists as as .pdf file. Will you help me fix this? I re formatted a thumb. I tried everything but no luck. Thanks for any help you can offer.
