Saturday Sewing Projects from Sew 4 Home

With Summer winding down, many of us will be spending more time at our sewing machines once again. Our friends from Sew4Home have come up with some adorable projects which can be done in a day, or over the weekend.

As always, Sew4Home suggests some fabulous specific Janome machines they feel are ideal to complete the projects; there’s a project and machine pairing for every skill level and budget, but they’re only suggestions. You certainly aren’t limited by the machine or the project. Everyone can share in the fun! If you’re in the market for a new machine, however, your Janome Canada dealer can arrange a test drive of any of the models mentioned here as they’re all in stock in our Janome Canada warehouse!

Knit Baby Bib with Ruffle Accents + Janome 1522 Series

Not only are these bibs as cute as can be, they’re also fast and easy, and there’s a full, free S4H pattern download. The layers come together with all-around binding that turns into tails to tie the bib in place. It’s a beginner-friendly project you can make on any machine, like one of the models from the Janome 1522 Series. There are four great colors: Red, Pink, Dark Grey, and Blue. All of them with a more stitches, adjustment options, and sewing bed size than you might expect on such an economical machine.

Ukulele Pillow with Janome Sewist 780DC

Shaped pillows are so much fun! This cool ukulele features accent elements done as appliqué, strings created with a triple stitch in heavy thread, and tiny buttons as tuning pegs and the bottom bridge. S4H offers detailed templates so it’s easy to get everything in the perfect position. For this type of multi-technique project, we recommend a computerized machine packed with time-saving features: the Janome Sewist 780DC. For the precision stitching of the project’s appliqué elements and string accents, the 780’s stitch elongation option, automatic thread cutter, and start/stop button were key to a professional finish.

Kids’ Round Storage Bins + Janome Skyline S9

These round fabric baskets make picking up and putting away much more fun and colorful. You’ll learn expert tips for sewing in 3D: how to layer and stabilize to keep the best shape, how to inset a round base, binding tricks, and more. The custom flower and guitar appliqué templates are offered free from S4H, but as an alternative, we suggest using the powerful Janome Skyline S9 Sewing and Embroidery model to add embroidered accents to your panels rather than appliqué. S4H loves the entire Skyline series from the entry level Janome S3 to the workhorse Janome S7 to the flexible Janome S9.

Happy Sewing!
