My husband has commented that when I am working on a project and leave my machine on to cut or trim, etc. and my machine goes to sleep, that is very hard on the machine. He thinks I would be better off shutting the machine off completely if I am going to be away from it for several minutes. What is best for my machines? I have a Horizon MC15000, a 9400 and a Skyline S5

      HI Barb,
Machines sit turned on all day when we do trade shows so I wouldn’t say it’s particularly hard on the machine as newer machines have more sophisticated electronics, and many do indeed have a Screen Saver/Sleep mode to protect the LCD screen. To leave the machine idle for a few minutes is fine. If it’s going to be for longer than 30 minutes, then you might as well switch it off to save the electricity. Happy Sewing!

In addition to the Screen Saver feature, the new CM17 has a full shut down function which switches the machine off entirely after a maximum of 12 hours away. The amount of time can be changed, as well, so concerns over electricity and potentially over taxing computer components is indeed a growing concern felt by all. You’re fine getting up to cut or press, but if you’re going out to walk the dog, or get stuck on the phone for a length of time, switch the machine off before you go to save all around. Happy Sewing!
