I’ve had my Janome HD9BE for a few months and I’m still madly in love with it! It’s rugged and durable, while also providing a smooth sewing experience with must-have features like the needle up/down button and the auto thread cutter. Most people associate the Janome HD9 with heavy projects like denim, vinyl and canvas. While it is certainly made to handle these hefty fabrics, it’s also a fantastic all-around sewing machine for garment making, tote bags and quilting.
In a previous blog post, I talked about the lovely narrow Hemmer Foot (D) which comes with the machine, (and many other models) but there’s a variety of optional specialty presser feet available, as well!
One which I absolutely love is the Janome Concealed Zipper Foot (Z) (Part Number: 767410016). This is an optional specialty presser foot you can purchase from your Janome dealer. Like the Janome Hemmer Foot (D), it’s solid metal and works like a charm!

Sometimes no matter how hard we search, we can’t match the zipper to our fabric! The concealed (aka invisible) zipper is a great solution to this problem. To show this, I’m going to sew a red zipper into fabric that is noticeably darker. Concealed zippers are also great to use when you don’t want to interrupt a large print, or add any extra bulk.
The point of the Janome Concealed Zipper Foot (Z) is to sew as close to the zipper teeth/ coil as possible. To achieve this, the foot slightly unrolls the zipper coil just before it passes the needle. Look at the video below to see how easy it is!
And here are the results! Not too bad if you ask me. If you were to inspect it up close, you could probably see a little bit of bright red zipper. To the casual observer, it’s practically invisible!
