Janome Presser Foot Spotlight – Glide Foot for the Janome Longarm Quilting Machines

The Janome Glide 2 Foot Part Number: HG00540-JA for the Janome Quilt Maker longarm quilting machines is absolutely my favourite optional presser/ hopping foot for many reasons.

This foot is probably one of the best investments you will make for your Janome Quilt Maker longarm quilting machine. It’s sew versatile! It’s made of clear plastic to see your work but it’s main function is the ability to go over thick, bulky seams, go off and on the edges of the quilt top without catching the fabric, or to even go over missed seams with gapping holes in the fabric. Yes, I have seen quilt tops with big holes in them where the seam is not stitched, or the stitching has come undone. This can cause big problems with a regular foot with it’s hard edges catching the edge of the fabric as it’s stitching, especially when computer guided, and ripping the quilt top.

Ask me how I know! It happened to me and actually broke the needle bar and cost over $800.00 to fix.

The Janome Glide 2 Foot is also useful when stitching around applique, especially raised applique which has been stuffed with batting. The edges of the foot are rounded and totally smooth so you can stitch right up the applique without bumping into it causing the stitches to wobble. Nothing gets caught on the foot, so neither the stitches or the fabric get bunched up or distorted.

It’s also great to use when quilting T-Shirt quilts, or when quilting unusual “fabrics” like vinyl and leather which you’ll later cut up into tote bags, or use for upholstered projects. There’s no distortion of the material.

As mentioned earlier, the big plus of the Janome Glide 2 Foot with it’s rounded edges is that it can go off and on the edges of the quilt top without catching the fabric and twisting it onto itself. This is especially useful if you’re using the Pro-Stitcher software for computer guided quilting.

It’s always a good idea to baste down the edges of the quilt top first to prevent the fabric from shifting while quilting, but sometimes you need to leave one side of the quilt free in order to work out fullness in the quilt top. Using the Janome Glide 2 Foot helps ease in that fullness without stitching wrinkles because of the rounded edges of the foot. Nothing is getting caught and the foot is clear, so you can see exactly what you’re doing the whole time.
