Sew Much Fun at the Janome Sewing & Learning Centre!

We recently ran full day sewing classes at the Janome Sewing & Learning Centre in Oakville, Ontario, and, as always, it was sew much fun! Click on the arrows on the photo below to review the gallery of photos. Together we made these lovely quilted crossbody bags using some of our favourite Janome machines like the Horizon MC9480QC Professional, Continental M17, and the high speed straight stitch HD9!

We used the ‘Emerson Crossbody Quilted Bag’ pattern by The Blanket Statement. It’s a great pattern for a quilter who wants to explore bag making.

You start off by making a quilt sandwich (size of a fat quarter), quilting it however you want, then cutting the bag pattern pieces from it!

The pattern calls for metal zippers, which means you can’t easily sew over the zipper teeth as you can with nylon coil zippers, but don’t be intimidated! The instructions showed us a really neat way to add ‘zipper tabs’ to either side of the zipper tape, which makes it easy to avoid sewing near the stoppers. No broken needles! lol!

Classes and events at the Janome Sewing & Learning Centre are a great way to learn new skills, and spend time sewing on our fabulous machines. You could even contact us ahead of time to request to use a particular model that you’re interested in!

Our education team will guide you through the project, and the incredible capabilities of the machines we use in our classroom, so you don’t have to worry if the machine is new to you. Whether you’re thinking about a new machine and would like to give it good test drive before you buy, or are just looking to sew a fun project and socialize, everyone is welcome!

On April 28th, 2024, we will be making the ‘Stitch & Zip’ travel kit to store all your sewing supplies and tools while on-the-go. We’ll be embroidering and sewing them entirely on the Janome Continental M17! Click here for details and to signup!

We also offer one-on-one machine specific lessons where you can bring your machine for a private session that is tailored to your needs. For all inquiries regarding private lessons and for upcoming classes, please email classes@janome-canada.com

HI Susan. Congratulations on your fabulous new machine! All the Janome apps now work with both Apple and Android tablets. They don’t need to have a huge amount of memory or super fast processing speed, so purchasing a used/ second hand device that’s several years old will work, as well. Download the free Janome apps from our Janome Global Site https://www7.janome.co.jp/global/product/softwareapps/ Happy Sewing!

Michael, Can an “Android” be used with a MC15000?I thought that it needed the iPad.

Any iPad will work, but I like to purchase as new as I can afford, so that the APP’s will update as needed.

Hi CherylAnn. Up until about 2 years ago, the free Janome apps for the MC15000 and Skyline S9 were only for Apple devices. In large part due to customer feedback, those Janome apps are now available to use with both Apple and Android devices. The apps do need updating from time to time which can be done from the Janome Global Site, the App Store or Google Play . Happy Sewing!
