Janome recently came out with an update for the Janome Continental M17 and I’m here to help you update your machine to version 1.10!
To start, you’ll need a few things: your Janome CM17 (of course!), a formatted USB flash drive, the software file to update your machine, and a few minutes (about 5) to process the update.
To download the software needed to update to version 1.10, you’ll need to go to the Janome Global website. Once you are on that website, you’ll click on “Product Information” in the top menu.
Next, you’ll click on the “Machine Owner’s Information and Updates”.
On that page you’ll find a list of Janome sewing machines with the Continental M17 at the top.
Click on the red arrow on the right side of your screen and you’ll be in the Janome CM17 area where there is information on this model. At the top of the list is the most recent update for the Janome CM17 and this is where you’ll find the treasure hunt begins!
You’ll see “the version 1.10 update information, Continental M17 Update to Version 1.10”.
Click on the update and you’ll be taken to another area where you’ll find all the information you need to update the Janome CM17.
You’ll discover several PDF files with information to help you with the updating process. It’s a good idea to download and read these three PDF files to prepare you for the update. Once you’ve downloaded these files, click on the box next to “Check this box to indicate that you have read the above instructions” and the red “Download” button will now be activated.
Click on the “Download” button to download the “gold” (the treasure) to your computer. You can place these downloads wherever you wish on your computer – they don’t need to be in a special folder.
The download is in a zip file so you’ll need to unzip it to access the information inside. If you don’t know how to unzip a file, refer to the information in the appropriate PDF file that you previously downloaded.
Once the file is unzipped, you’ll find installation instructions in several languages. If you read English, you only need to read the file that ends in “EN”, which is the second option down. This is a very helpful document that explains the update procedure on the machine itself.
You’ll also find the most important treasure of all, the “update.bin” file. Insert your formatted USB flash drive into your computer and transfer this file from your computer to your USB flash drive. If you don’t know how to format the USB flash drive, refer to the first set of instructions how to do this. It’s quite simple and quick to do.
Note: Do not transfer any of the other files to your USB drive or this can cause issues when you try to update your Janome CM17.
Now the fun begins! 😁
Eject your USB flash drive from your computer and get ready to update your Janome CM17!
To start, ensure that your machine is turned off. Once the machine is off, insert the formatted USB flash drive with the “update.bin” file on it into one of the USB ports on the right side of the Janome CM17 (it doesn’t matter which port).
Now you need to hold two buttons down at the same time, needle up/down button and the lock stitch button.
Keep pressing both buttons simultaneously and turn on the machine making sure that you are still holding both of those buttons. You need to keep pressing these two buttons for at least 3 seconds when the machine is switched for the display screens to turn green. Once the display screens change to green, you can release the buttons as the update is starting.
While the Janome CM17 is updating, do not remove the USB flash drive or turn the machine off.
Wait patiently for about 5 minutes then the update will be finished – and the machine will tell you this. 😉
Once you see “Finish”, the update is done and your Janome CM17 will now be updated to version 1.10! 😀
You can now turn off the machine and remove the USB flash drive from the port.
When you next turn on your machine, you’ll see that it’s been updated to version 1.10.
You can delete the update.bin file from the USB flash drive and delete this and the PDF files that you downloaded to your computer. Click on the image below to watch a video explaining how to update the Janome CM17 and the features that the update provides.
