Updating the Janome Continental M7 to Version 2.00

Janome Continental M7

Are you up to date? What I really mean to ask is if your Janome Continental M7 is up to date. Janome released a new software update (Version 2.00) in May 2022 to fix a few, very minor points in the machine, so if you haven’t yet updated your own machine, I’m going to give you all the information you’ll need to do so.

Before we get into the update details, it’s a good idea to check and see which software version your Janome Continental M7 , If it’s already running Version 2.00, you won’t need to do anything at all – just have fun playing with your machine!

There are 2 ways to check which software version your machine is running. Click on the Function menu (3 lines in a circle on right side of the Janome Continental M7’s display screen).

Next, click on Machine Information and this will show the software version that is currently running on your Janome Continental M7. The other way is to simply turn off your machine, and switch it back on again. The Version will appear on the LCD screen as the machine comes to life

If you’re not already running Version 2.00, read on…

There are a few things you’ll need to update your Janome Continental M7:

  • Software update files
  • A computer
  • A USB stick
  • Your Janome Continental M7

First, insert the USB stick into your computer. There are different instructions on the update procedure depending on whether you have a PC or a Mac computer. I’ll explain these differences further on in this blogpost.

You’ll next need to find the software update files for the Janome Continental M7. They are on the Janome Global website here.

Once you’ve opened this page, you’ll see some files to open and read, and a box that you’ll have to click to indicate that you’ve read the 3 files.

Update information from Janome global website

Read them, then click on the box, then click on the red Download button to download the update files to your computer.

This is where the instructions are a bit different if you have a PC or a Mac computer.

Let’s start with the PC instructions.

You’ll need to open the downloaded folders until you find an “exe” file. Double-click on the exe file and that will transfer the necessary files to the USB stick.

If you have a Mac computer, these are the instructions to follow.

Open the downloaded folders until you find a “PROG” folder. Double-click to open this folder and you’ll see 5 files inside it. You’ll need to drag these five files only (not the entire file folder) to the USB stick that is inserted in your computer.

These are the files that need to be transferred to the USB stick if you have a Mac computer

The next steps are the same for both types of computers.

Turn off your Janome Continental M7. The machine must be off in order to do the update.

Next, you will put the USB stick into the port on the right side of the machine.

Before turning on the machine, press and hold both the lockstitch and needle up/down buttons together at the same time. Hold these, then turn on the machine continuing to hold these buttons together for at least 3 seconds or until the screen turns yellow.

Hold the lockstitch and needle up/down buttons when turning on the Janome Continental M7 to update it

When the screen turns yellow, you can release the two buttons and the update will now install. You’ll see a blue line at the top of the screen that will continue down the screen as the installation progresses.

While the update is going on, do not unplug the USB stick from the machine and do not turn the machine off.

When the update is complete, the entire display screen will be blue and there will be FINISH across the screen. Once the update has been installed, you can turn off the machine and remove the USB stick.

Now, to check to ensure that the update has been completed successfully, turn on the Janome Continental M7 and check the version in the Function menu as I mentioned near the beginning of this blogpost. It should now show Version 2.00.

Congratulations, your Janome Continental M7 is now all up to date and ready for more stitching!

Do I need to use a new USB stick to download the 2.00 update? I have several sticks with files on them for other things not relevant to Janome software

HI Cathy, It’s best to keep a clean USB stick; one without any other files on it, so the machine will read it more quickly and easily and be faster to download. Once the machine is updated, delete the files from the USB stick so its ready for the next update, or data transfer. Happy Sewing!

Hi, I’ve downloaded the new version 2 onto a usb and I’ve followed the video on installing. When the yellow screen comes on, I get an ‘Error’ message. What am I not doing?
    Thank you

HI Leonie. Error messages usually occur when people forgot to unzip the files first before copying them to the USB flash drive. Please review the steps on the Janome Global Site as well. I print them out and check them off as I go though the steps so I don’t get mixed up. You’ll get it! Happy Sewing!

YAY! Fabulous! It happens to many of us, as we don’t update machines very often, so we’re not always familiar with the steps. It’s great we can go back to review the steps and keep trying till we get it right. Happy Sewing!

Thanks, Kim, for this information. I was able to update a week or so ago and wish I had this information then. However I was finally able to update from Janome website instructions.

    Blessings,

    Beverly
