As Janome Educators, we’re often asked which machines we like best; which machine we feel is best for beginners, or for those wanting to upgrade to a machine with more features, for example. I thought it would be fun to pose these questions to my local Janome Dealer to see what they’d recommend.

Giroux Sewing Centre in Cornwall, Ontario has been a Janome Canada dealer for many years and is the one nearest where I live. Brad Kisnic, the owner, is very happy to help serve customers and provide them with the proper tools to learn. This includes providing Janome machines in their classroom, so students don’t need to worry about packing up and bringing their own machines – and forgetting the foot pedal, lol.
In their classroom, they chose to provide students the use of Janome 5300 QDC machines, as it’s a good “mid-level” machine; not too basic, but not too advanced, either. It has many convenient, time-saving features which any sewist will enjoy, no matter if it’s garment sewing, quilting or crafting.

The Janome 5300QDC is a perfect machine for students to learn the basics of sewing and quilting. It has many push-button controls so it’s quick and easy to make any adjustments, but doesn’t have too many to be intimidating. Included are 400 stitches and alphabets, conveniently displayed on the handy stich chart which attaches to the top of the machine. It also has a knee lifter so you don’t always have to take your hands off your fabric to raise and lower the presser foot. It’s a great time-saving feature! To view all the machine’s key features visit Janome.CA to learn more. Plus, there’s many bonuses included, like the Janome AcuView Optic Magnifier Set, Janome Quilting Attachment Kit (pictured below) Hard Cover and Extension Table.

Also in the classroom is a Janome MC 550E embroidery machine. It’s the perfect addition to any sewing room and the big 14.2″x7.9″ embroidery hoop lets you stitch out several of the same smaller designs in one hooping, which saves time and stabilizer. Why not embroider something while you are sewing on your Janome 5300 QDC? There are numerous Janome Life blogs about the fabulous Janome MC 550E Use the SEARCH box to find all the related posts..
For your classroom at home, don’t forget the workbooks available from Janome like the the Janome Presser Foot Workbook, which features descriptions and exercises for the most commonly used presser feet, many of which come with most Janome machines. There’s also several addendums available which highlight many additional specialty presser feet and attachments, including an addendum on all the accessories for the Janome CoverPro machines.
Contact your local Janome dealer for more details on any of these great machines for your personal sewing classroom, and of course, your dealers have more than just machines. Don’t forget about extra needles, bobbins, Madeira or Iris threads and all the fun extra Janome presser feet and accessories for your machine!
Happy Sewing!
Monique
