Hobby Patch Monthly Embroidery Series!

Our friends at Sew4Home have done it again! Debuting this week on the Janome Canada website, we will be offering a NEW collectable series of Hobby Patches, designed by the very talented team at Sew4Home.

For the next 7 months we will be offering a NEW Hobby Patch Janome Embroidery File (JEF) during the THIRD week of each month!

Join me, Michael Smith; National Education Manager of Janome Canada, and Liz Johnson; Senior Editor of Sew4Home, the third Thursday of every month at 3pm Eastern; 12pm Pacific on the Janome Canada Facebook page as we reveal which patch will be featured each month – as well as sharing sneak peeks; tips and tricks; and other sewing-related goodies!

As revealed in yesterday’s Janome Canada/Sew4Home LIVE, Liz shared the first Hobby Patch; ADVENTURE. This is great patch for anyone who loves hiking, sailing, rock climbing, etc. Learning more about your Janome embroidery machine and trying something new is also an adventure, so everyone can enjoy this patch.

Hobby Patch #1 of 7 – Adventure

Liz also gave us a sneak peek of upcoming patches, and a very special sneak peek of Anna Maria Horner’s new fabric line, Fluent, which will be in stores later this fall. Its gorgeous! Click on the link HERE to watch.

Any current Janome embroidery machine will do as all the patches fit within a 5.5″x5.5″ hoop. So long as your machine has a USB port to transfer the design into the machine and a 5.5″ x 5.5″ hoop, such as the Janome MC9850SE’s SQ14a hoop, you’re good to go! If you don’t, your Janome Canada dealer can show you some of the many embroidery machine options available if you’re in need of an upgrade.

Full instructions and the Hobby Patch JEF embroidery files are available in the INSPIRE tab/Sew4Home on the Janome Canada website. Your Janome Canada dealer can supply you with everything you need; Janome, Iris, or Madeira polyester embroidery thread; Madeira Stabilizer (Avalon Ultra water solvable stabilizer is recommended) Janome 4″ Mini Duckling Applique Scissors to trim your patch while in the hoop; and don’t forget Janome needles!

I usually use a Janome Sz11 Blue Tip for most embroidery, but switched to a Janome Sz14 Red Tip which has a sharper, stronger point. It was great to use with the density of the embroidery design and the thickness of the craft felt and Madeira Avalon Ultra stabilizer I used.

What you do with these patches is up to you. There’s sew many creative possibilities, so be sure to tag #janomecanada #sew4home #janomehq #sharethejanomelove so we see you use them. This 7 month series is designed like a club so we get together the THIRD Thursday of every month to reveal a new Hobby Patch design, and see what we did with the previous month’s patch. With the holidays coming up, these would be great to embellish a special gift.

Join us LIVE next month, September 15th, on the Janome Canada Facebook page at 3pm Eastern; 12pm Pacific to see what’s the next Hobby Patch to be revealed! Don’t have Facebook? Not to worry! All presentations are uploaded to the Janome HQ You Tube channel, so you may watch there, too!

Be sure to go to the INSPIRE tab/Sew4Home on Janome Canada’s website to download this month’s Hobby Patch, and to access all previous Mini Tips, Project Pairings and Embroidery Collections from our friends at Sew4Home!

Happy Sewing!
